Dental Implants

Dental implants are artificial tooth roots that are permanently anchored in the jawbone to offer a permanent base for replacement teeth. Dental implants can be used to replace any number of missing teeth, from a single tooth to an entire upper or lower arch.

The implants themselves are tiny titanium posts that are inserted into the jawbone where teeth are missing. The bone bonds with the titanium post, creating a strong foundation for artificial teeth.

Dental implants are an ideal option for patients with good general oral health who have lost a tooth or teeth due to periodontal disease, an injury, or some other reason. The ideal candidate for dental implants is someone who has good bone density and healthy gums.

Dental Implants Procedure

Before receiving your dental implant, our dentist will take a series of X-rays and scans to get a better look at your dental anatomy. This will ensure that the implant can be placed in the correct spot.

Next, the dentist will place a titanium post into the jawbone. Your jawbone will heal around this post, creating a secure foundation for your dental implant. This process is called osseointegration.

Once the healing process is complete, our dentist will attach the permanent replacement tooth, i.e., crown or other restoration, to the abutment.

Advantages of Dental Implants

There are a number of benefits associated with dental implants, including:

  • Dental implants are very stable because they are anchored to your jawbone.
  • Dental implants are more comfortable because they look and feel like natural teeth.
  • Implants preserve your jawbone by stimulating it just like natural teeth. In addition, they preserve your other teeth since they do not have to be altered as is the case for tooth-supported bridges.
  • Dental implants are easy to care for. You can brush and floss them just like your real teeth.
  • They are a durable replacement option.
